If you are just starting out in your own law firm or have found yourself rebuilding and are not sure where to start, listen up.
Naturally, your gaining of new business that will help you keep the lights on is high on the list. Yet, I say to you that there are a few other big rocks to address even before you place your firm’s first marketing piece.
The very first action is to begin at the beginning, and that means getting the space between your two ears tightened up.
First let’s look at you. I usually begin by sharing my program called Your Defining Purpose. Please take some time to think about these things. Your goal is to be searching for your Why. As you begin to think about this, consider the things that will get you closer to your Why.
The first question is “How do you define success?”
Maybe you're just starting, and your answer is: “I just wanted my first $250,000 in sales,” in which case all of those goals are achievable.
Maybe you have already built a law firm and are saying: “Look, I already do $1 million or I already do $2 million, but the problem is I wake up every day dreading going to the office. I just don't want to go. I don't want to see the employees. I can't tell them that. I don't want to deal with the bills, and I don't want to deal with the clients, and I just dread my life and have a horrible feeling about my office; and I don't like where I am, and I'm not sure how I got here. I just want a way out.
The good news is there IS a way out, and I can share this process to show you that way. You didn’t start with these feelings. You started this practice for a reason. I urge you to get back to that and find your why again. We can then build upon that.
Some want it all. Some want a business that creates gobs of cash. None of these answers is wrong, but you need to define for yourself exactly what success is for you, because based on that answer you are going to determine what it is you want to get out of your journey.
