In our daily journey towards achieving our goals, we often times forget to rest. This is a monumental mistake and we are all guilty of it, me included.
We wake to our alarm on our phone, react to emails as they come in, answer the phone when it rings and allow others to interrupt us all day long. How many of us actually take the time to rest?
One of my favorite self-help guru’s is Darrin Hardy, the author of The Compound Effect, said during one of his Success Magazine CD interviews that as entrepreneurs and highly effective business people, we are actually paid to rest. Just like world class Olympians who realize rest is an essential part of their preparations for the race towards Gold. We too must realize that it’s during the restful times that we find our most inspiring ideas, our right angle concepts.
Personally, I find that if work really hard on a dedicated project for 90 minutes and then take a 15 minute break. I’m able to get back to the Alpha state that is necessary for me to work at my Olympic best. Just taking 15 minutes to have complete silence, or enjoy a cup of tea or maybe even take a quick walk around the neighborhood where I work is enough to free my brain. These things allow me to focus my energies and prepare me for my next task.
If you’re not looking at rest as tool in your arsenal, you’re not acting like an Olympian. Tonight, while planning your day, be sure to add in time for rest.
Building a better business, one daily rest at a time…
